Pillars of eternity portraits reddit9/14/2023 Rogues are the other strong contenders for firearm users as they can make the most of that big first shot with their Sneak Attack ability, which can be augmented to give you some pretty serious damage multipliers even across a fight (many conditions allow for a Sneak Attack - you can continue to score them after the first strike). Blunderbusses are especially powerful because, as /u/MerricBrightsteel mentioned, each of their 8 pellets counts as an individual hit, synergizing with Draining Whip in a way that seems likely to be nerfed, honestly. Big slow weapons tend to be ideal for them, as they put out a lot of damage very quickly and let you get back to casting. Ciphers are primarily DD/CC casters but use a special resource for their spells called focus, which they have to recharge by striking enemies with conventional weapons. With that out of the way, I would suggest either a Rogue or a Cipher for a gun user. Guns don't tend to have particularly good sustained damage as a result of their long reload times and generally low recovery, but the second-level Chanter phrase Sure-Handed Ila Nocked Her Arrows With Speed (Shoot-Stuff-Faster-Pls) speeds up the process very significantly, turning them from novelties or one-shot wonder combat openers to viable weapons across an entire battle. Although you certainly don't need your main character to roll Chanter (and perhaps shouldn't!), I couldn't imagine having a party with more than one character using firearms without a Chanter. I'd like to echo /u/TJ_McWeaksauce in suggesting a Chanter. Instead, after submission, click the button under your post to assign the appropriate link flair, which will produce the same spoiler tags.
